Exceptional Date Night in High Street Kensington

Cheneston’s Restaurant Review

High Street Kensington has no shortage of good restaurants. There are fashionable Italian dining rooms, smart neighbourhood establishments and plenty of places where dinner for two can become expensive remarkably quickly. But if the intention is to make an evening feel genuinely special, Cheneston’s Restaurant at The Milestone Hotel occupies a rather different category.

Sitting at 1 Kensington Court, just off Kensington High Street and directly opposite Kensington Palace and Gardens, Cheneston’s is not a restaurant that shouts for attention. In fact, it is surprisingly discreet considering the grandeur waiting inside.

For a gentleman planning dinner with a high-class London escort, that discretion is part of its appeal.

Old-School Kensington Luxury

The Milestone is a five-star London hotel housed within an imposing Grade II-listed Victorian building, and Cheneston’s feels very much a part of it.

Walk inside and contemporary restaurant minimalism is nowhere to be found. Instead, there is dark wood, rich mahogany furniture, traditional fabrics, beautifully dressed tables and the sort of polished service associated with grand London hotels.

It feels expensive before anybody has brought you a menu.

Yet the atmosphere manages not to become oppressively formal. Cheneston’s describes its style as refined British dining, and that is a fair description of both the food and the room. There is a distinctly English sense of occasion about the place.

That makes it particularly well suited to a date.

There are restaurants where the objective seems to be seeing and being seen. Cheneston’s is more intimate. Conversation is possible, tables aren’t fighting against nightclub-level music and the service is attentive without constantly interrupting the evening.

When your dinner companion is an elegant London escort and you have dressed for the occasion, it feels like somewhere you belong rather than somewhere you have simply booked a table.

Dinner Is an Occasion Rather Than a Pit Stop

Executive Chef Sam Saunders and his team concentrate heavily on seasonal British produce, with ingredients sourced from around the British Isles.

The restaurant holds two AA Rosettes, and the menu combines traditional British influences with considerably more refined modern presentation.

There is Scottish salmon from H. Forman & Son, London’s historic smokery, alongside seasonal meat, fish, pasta and carefully constructed desserts. The restaurant also offers both a tasting menu and vegetarian tasting menu for guests who would rather hand over the decision-making and simply enjoy the evening.

And that is probably the way I would approach Cheneston’s on an important date.

This isn’t somewhere I would rush through two courses before asking for the bill. Allow the restaurant to become part of the evening.

The tasting menu is currently around £110 per person, with a dedicated eight-course tasting experience for two offered by The Milestone at £253 including service. Add Champagne or a good bottle from the wine list and dinner can comfortably become a several-hundred-pound affair.

For once, however, spending the money actually contributes something to the experience.

A Restaurant Made for an Impressive Date

There is an important distinction between an expensive restaurant and a romantic one.

Cheneston’s manages to be both.

If you are meeting a beautiful High Street Kensington escort for an evening in London, particularly a high-class escort accustomed to some of the capital’s better hotels and restaurants, simply choosing the place with the biggest bill isn’t necessarily impressive.

Atmosphere matters more.

Cheneston’s has that slightly cocooned feeling that grand hotel restaurants can achieve particularly well. Once inside, Kensington High Street seems considerably further away than it actually is.

You can start with Champagne, settle into dinner without being rushed and move afterwards to the hotel’s Stables Bar for cocktails rather than immediately heading back onto the High Street.

The bar itself has the intimate character of an old-fashioned gentleman’s club, making it a natural continuation of the evening.

For couples who value privacy, there is another intriguing option.

The Oratory: Taking Privacy to Another Level

Hidden within The Milestone is The Oratory, the former chapel of the original house.

Today it can be used as an exceptionally intimate private dining room.

For an anniversary, celebration or particularly extravagant evening with your companion, this changes the experience completely. Rather than simply reserving one of London’s better tables, you can create something much closer to a private dinner.

The hotel also offers bespoke dining experiences in which preferences are discussed with the Executive Chef before a personalised menu and accompanying wines are created.

It is excessive.

But that is rather the point.

There are evenings when choosing the sensible option defeats the object.

What Should You Wear?

Smart is the obvious answer.

High Street Kensington itself can be relatively relaxed, but Cheneston’s deserves more effort. A well-cut jacket, good shirt and proper shoes would be entirely at home here, particularly for dinner.

And if your companion arrives in an elegant evening dress and heels, the surroundings are sufficiently luxurious that she won’t look overdressed.

That matters more than people sometimes realise when choosing a restaurant for an escort date. A glamorous companion can feel conspicuous in an overly casual restaurant. At The Milestone, elegance looks completely natural.

Is Cheneston’s the Best Restaurant in High Street Kensington?

There is serious competition.

Nearby Kitchen W8 has held a Michelin star since 2011 and is arguably the stronger choice for someone interested purely in culinary accolades. It is an excellent restaurant.

But I would choose Cheneston’s for this particular kind of evening.

Kitchen W8 feels like an outstanding neighbourhood restaurant. Cheneston’s feels like an occasion.

Its location opposite Kensington Palace, five-star hotel setting, traditional dining room, excellent British cooking, substantial wine selection and opportunity for genuinely private dining give it an atmosphere that is difficult to replicate.

This isn’t the restaurant I would choose for a casual first drink or an inexpensive dinner after work.

It is where I would go when the evening itself matters.

The Verdict

Food: 9/10
Service: 9.5/10
Atmosphere: 9.5/10
Romance: 9.5/10
Privacy: 9/10
Value: 8/10
Suitable for an escort date: 10/10

Cheneston’s represents a particular version of London luxury: discreet, traditional and unapologetically indulgent.

For a date with a high-class London escort, that’s arguably more appealing than booking the newest fashionable restaurant simply because everybody else is talking about it.

Arrive properly dressed. Have Champagne. Don’t hurry dinner. Order the wine you actually want rather than the one you think you ought to order. Then finish the evening with cocktails at the Stables Bar.

There are cheaper ways to have dinner in Kensington.

But if you’re taking a beautiful companion out in one of London’s wealthiest neighbourhoods, saving money probably wasn’t the objective in the first place.
